The 12th match of the PSL 2022 sees Islamabad United take on Lahore Qalandars on Saturday at National Stadium in Karachi. Islamabad United made a winning start to their campaign but it was followed by a defeat at the hands of Multan Sultans. At the time of writing, Islamabad United have managed to win 1 match out of two.
In their last game against Multan Sultans, Islamabad United were at the receiving end of the destruction caused by Tim David and Rilee Rossouw. Multan Sultans notched a mammoth score of 217 runs in the first innings.
In reply, Alex Hales, Paul Sterling, and R Gurbaz all made positive starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores. However, skipper Shadab Khan reignited hope with some sensational hitting. He ripped apart Multan’s bowling unit with his power-hitting display.
He scored 91 runs in 42 balls and took the team as close to the target as possible. Unfortunately, he got out in the 19th over and it was all but over for Islamabad United after that. In the end, they fell 20 runs short of the target. Islamabad United have two games in the space of three days and they would look to win both of them.
On Saturday, they will be facing Lahore Qalandars, who are coming into the encounter on the back of two consecutive wins. They beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in their last game. The top-order contributed heavily as Lahore Qalandars notched a mammoth 199-run total in the first innings.
Shafique scored 41 in 31 deliveries, while Fakhar Zaman, yet again, played a stellar knock of 66 runs in 38 balls. Later, Kamran Ghulam (30 off 23) and M Hafeez (37 off 19) also made crucial contributions to help the team reach a competitive score on the board.
Lahore Qalandars were impressive with the ball as well as they managed to restrict Peshawar Zalmi to 170 runs, thereby winning the game by 29 runs. Zaman Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs. Shaheen Afridi (2 for 19) and David Wiese (2 for 11) also returned with impressive figures.
